Primary 4

TWelcome to Primary 4.  The class teachers are Mrs Lynchehaun and Mrs O’Hare. They are assisted by Mr Fitzpatrick, Mrs Campbell and Miss Murnin.

Primary 4 is such an exciting year as we prepare to receive both the sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Through daily prayer and through the Grow in Love programme we are building our relationships with God.

Primary 4 is a hugely important year where the children become more independent and begin to think about transitioning into key stage 2. We strive to follow our school behaviour policy to ensure we all are having a happy learning experience. In primary 4 we get the opportunity to join both the school council and eco council; with that comes more responsibility but we love a challenge in primary 4. We are so lucky that we can avail of lots of fun after school clubs such as; hip-hop, gymnastics, Gaelic, soccer, Bee Active, instrumental tuition and singing lessons, not to mention Burns Skills School and GAA Coaching during school for PE!

What’s new in primary 4;

On a daily basis, we do lots of hard work in primary 4. In numeracy we work within 999, we begin to learn multiplication facts and become more independent, taking part in lots of problem solving activities. In literacy we begin to have a more mature approach to our talking and listening activities, we explore more inference in our guided reading lessons and begin to write more imaginatively and creatively. We follow the complete spelling programme and love to use ‘J2Blast’ to help us with our spellings. Just2Easy is a great app that we use to help us excel in all areas of the curriculum.

Reading is such an important part of primary 4 and we explore lots of fiction and non-fiction books throughout the year. Some of the authors we love are Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Francesca Simon, Jill Murphy, Tara Binns, Chris Riddell, Marcia Williams and Jeremy Strong along with lots others.
