About School

The vision for St. Patrick’s Primary & Nursery School as a Catholic School is to live out the Gospel values together as a school family daily in school.
Each child will be primarily assisted in developing holistically as part of our school community during their time in St. Patrick’s.
We strive always to develop self-respect in our children, to teach them to respect each other and to respect peoples of all religions, races, cultures
and ways of life.

The Curriculum and Pastoral Care, in all aspects, will therefore reflect the fact that Christ is the foundation of all school life and community.
By virtue of its Christian ethos, St. Patrick’s Primary & Nursery School operates under the leadership of the Principal and staff and adults show no
distinction between peoples of different gender, race, religion, cultural background, or ability groupings.
Enriched learning opportunities are available to all children and self-respect and respect for all peoples is nurtured by everyone in the school
community. We warmly welcome children from other countries and traditions to our school family and embrace their ways of life in a holistic way.

The School Vision

The vision for St. Patrick’s Primary & Nursery School as a Catholic School is to live out the Gospel values together as a school family daily in school.

Each child will be primarily assisted in developing holistically as part of our school community during their time in St. Patrick’s.

We strive always to develop self-respect in our children, to teach them to respect each other and to respect peoples of all religions, races, culture and ways of life.

The Curriculum and Pastoral Care, in all aspects, will therefore reflect the fact that Christ is the foundation of all school life and community.

By virtue of its Christian ethos, St. Patrick’s Primary &Nursery School operates under the leadership of the Principal and staff and adults show no distinction between peoples of different gender, race, religion, cultural background, or ability groupings.

Enriched learning opportunities are available to all children and self-respect and respect for all peoples is nurtured by everyone in the school community. We warmly welcome children from other countries and traditions to our school family and embrace their ways of life in a holistic way.

We have, in St. Patrick’s, a dedicated staff of teachers and ancillary personnel as well as voluntary helpers who have a strong sense of loyalty to our school and its goals and who work untiringly for the good of all the children.

Our children show a healthy sense of ‘belonging’ to the school community; they recognise the importance of high standards of schoolwork, behaviour and courtesy.

Confidence and self-esteem are promoted strongly through a range of curricular and extra-curricular activities and the children are encouraged to value one another and express their personal views while appreciating those of others.

The children and staff are encouraged in their efforts and expectations through a high level of affirmation, appreciation and success.

Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in the work of their children and are given a range of opportunities to participate in the life of the school (Class Prayer Services, Voluntary In-School Support, Concerts, Fundraising Activities, Sports Day, Community linked activities etc.)

The school premises are made attractive by the high standard of the children’s work displayed in the foyer, corridors and classrooms as well as the ongoing refurbishment of the school building and grounds, thus creating and maintaining a stimulating environment for staff and children.

Furthermore the use of Premises by Community and Parish groups and organisations is actively encouraged throughout the School Year and during periods of school closure. St. Patrick’s Primary & Nursery School values each member of the school community as a unique person made in the image of God.

Together we endeavour to create an atmosphere in which the children feel secure and happy and all staff work together as a team, supportive of one another and sensitive to each other’s needs.

Our School Council 2022-2023

Our School Council aims to encourage our children to:

  • Develop confidence and responsibility and make the most of their abilities.
  • Prepare them to play an active role as citizens.
  • Develop healthy, safer lifestyles.
  • Develop good relationships and respect the differences between people.
  • To have a “voice” and to share their opinions and ideas with others.

Why?

We value the benefits of operating a School Council. The School Council represents the whole school. Through our School Council, it is hoped that we can develop a balance and wholeness, helping to make our community more harmonious to live in. Our School Council work will enable pupils with positive attitudes to exert a positive influence. Everyone will benefit from the work of the School Council. Any child at our school can put forward any ideas they have using the ‘bright ideas’ boxes distributed throughout the school. Student council members collect these suggestions, discuss them at monthly student council meetings, decide if they are viable ideas which can make our school better and will report back to the child who has suggested.

Our School Council aims to ensure our children have:

  • A safe, happy and fair learning environment.
  • A forum to voice their concerns and act upon them.
  • A structured opportunity to learn problem-solving skills.
  • An opportunity to take an active role in the organisation of the school.
  • An opportunity to experience a democratic process.

Our School Council should encourage pupils to develop:

  • A sense of ownership over policy and practice.
  • A consensus over school issues such as behaviour.
  • A responsibility towards the school community and environment.

Our School Council should give the pupils the experience of:

  • Planning, organising and monitoring small projects.

  •  Speaking and listening skills
  •  Debating skills.
  •   Mediation and negotiating skills.
  • Basic budgeting and managing money.
